MITHI, April 17: District Council Tharparkar in its session on Monday urged the Sindh government to fill vacant posts for doctors, especially lady doctors, in Thar to ensure adequate medical facilities for people in the backward and remote areas.

Urfi Begum, a council member, who tabled the resolution, said that doctors and teachers who were posted did not attend to their duties while a considerable number of basic health units (BHUs) had no doctors and schools had no teachers.

Mr Allah Warayo Bajir, Arbab Abdul Malik, Abdul Subhan and Kirshan Lal deplored there was no woman medical officer in the entire district except Mithi, and the ill-fated relatives had to travel with the dead bodies of their women to Mithi all the way from Diplo, Nagarparkar and Chhachhro for post-mortem.

The convenor Abdul Karim Rahoomo pointed out that a solution would be sent to Sindh government about the problem.

In another resolution, Kewal Ram demanded provision of potable water to the villages from the pipeline which carried canal water from Naukot to Mithi and Islamkot.

He said the residents of villages situated near the pipeline had to fetch water from the tanks constructed at different points on its route.

Mr Kirshan Lal’s resolution pointed out that revenue department was preparing to allot about 200 acres of land near Malanhore Veena village for an agriculture project, which he said was most likely to create obstacles to locals in carrying on their lives.

Therefore, he demanded, the project should be shifted to some other location. Nazim union council Malanhore Veena put his weight behind the demand.

Since no revenue officer was present at the session to clarify factual position of the issue, the convenor postponed the resolution till Tuesday.

A number of other resolutions passed by the session demanded construction of community centres in different villages.
