Section 144 imposed in Rawalpindi

RAWALPINDI, April 17: District Nazim Raja Javed Ikhlas has imposed section 144 banning use of loudspeakers in the revenue limits of Rawalpindi district.

The nazim told a meeting that an advisory committee would be constituted at district level to monitor and prepare the schedule for religious and national gatherings.

Police and the district government would devise a joint security plan for maintaining peace during these gatherings, he added.

It was also decided that the district government and the police must be informed in advance before holding any gathering or rally, otherwise it would be considered a violation of section 144.

Advisers to Punjab Chief Minister Rahat Qudoosi and Raja Nasir, MMA District President Allama Abdul Jalil, District Peace Committee Chairman Pir Syed Izhar Hussain, and other officials of district government and police were also present at the meeting.—PPI
