KASUR, April 17: A district coordination committee has been established for launching an action programme to eliminate worst forms of child labour from tanneries.

This was stated by DCO Hashim Tareen at an inaugural meeting of the committee held at a local hotel here on Monday.

He said the programme would be launched in collaboration with International Labour Organisation, ministry of labour, IPEC, the district government and an NGO — Sudhar.

The meeting was attended by ILO time-bound programme chief Ahmet Ozirmak, EDOs Muhammad Aslam Shad and M Iqbal Litta, senior programme officer Saifullah Chaudhry, federal labour ministry representative Adnan Nazir, child labour coordinator Naeem Ijaz, tanneries association president Mian Muhammad Ishfaq and representatives of NGOs.

Speaking on the occasion, coordinator Naeem Ijaz said 250 centres for children welfare had been set up by now out of which three were working in Kasur.

EXECUTION: Two convicts would be hanged in the district jail here on Tuesday (today).

Convicts Liaquat and Mukhtar shot dead Yaseen 14 years ago on irrigation water dispute at Cheenatar.

An additional district and sessions judge had handed down death with Rs40,000 fine collectively. The Supreme Court and the president of Pakistan rejected their appeals.

ACCIDENT: Twenty people sustained injuries in a head-on collision between a car and a wagon on the Kot Radha Kishan-Changa Manga Road.

The injured were rushed to the Chunian Hospital.
