KARACHI, April 16: “The April 11 suicide bombing in Nishtar Park was not aimed at any particular person or party, but its purpose was to malign the country’s image at international level by killing innocent people,” said Provincial Police Officer Jehangir Mirza.

Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, he declined to provide any information about the investigation in the bombing, and said that disclosing some of the findings at this point might affect the investigation.

He confirmed that several people were being asked questions but said that nobody had been formally arrested in this regard.

Describing the incident as a suicide bombing, he said the conclusion had been reached in the light of evidences and the opinions of the Bomb Disposal Squad and the Special Branch of police department. He said that the head found from the scene of the incident had not yet been identified.

The PPO expressed the fear that ‘probably this may not be the last such incident in the city.’

When asked if police had bomb detectors, the PPO said that arrangements were being made to acquire them.
