NAUSHAHRO FEROZE, April 16: Farmers staged a demonstration on Sunday against the district food controller and the food inspector Mehrabpur centre for not issuing gunny bags.

Led by nazim of the Union Council Mehrabpur, around 80 protesting growers, including Abdul Wahab Memon and naib nazim Mitha Khan, staged a sit-in in front of the Mehrabpur press club.

They told newsmen that the food controller and inspector were issuing gunny bags to those businessmen who were paying them commission and offering bribe.

HUNGER STRIKE: Many Lund tribesmen and activists of different political parties observed a token hunger strike in front of the Moro press club on Sunday, demanding arrest of the killers of engineer Ghulam Murtaza Lund.

Ghulam Murtaza was killed about five months ago in Karachi.

Mujahid, Ghulam Mujtaba and Fahad, brothers of Mr Murtaza, were leading the strikers.

The protesters were joined by the activists of different political parties, including Farid Kalhoro of the Awami Tehrik, Mohammad Ishaque Korai of the Moro Action Committee, Saleem Rajput of the PPP-SB, Syed Fateh Ali Shah of the Lower Staff Education Union, Amanullah Siyal of the Sindh People’s Students Federation and Aslam Korejo of Jeay Sindh Mahaz.

They said that despite nomination of the accused in FIR, police had not arrested them as the killers were influential.

They demanded early arrest of the killers.

YOUTH DIES: A youth, who was admitted to the Civil Hospital, Naushahro Feroze, a few days ago on the orders of the additional sessions judge following his application against investigation police, died here on Sunday.

Roshan Ali, son of Sher Mohammad Bhutt, had submitted an application to the Justice of Peace and district and sessions judge, Naushahro Feroze, complaining that the investigation police had tortured him after implicating him in a bogus case.

The application was transferred to the additional district and sessions judge Naushahro Feroze.

He was admitted to the Civil Hospital, Naushahro Feroze, on the orders of the court.

When contacted, the in-charge of the investigation wing, Naushahro Feroze, said Roshan Ali had been nominated in the FIR lodged by a woman and that he was sick.
