US allows PLO to retain office

Published April 16, 2006

WASHINGTON, April 15: The US has extended permission for the Palestinian Liberation Organisation to keep an office here for another six months, a spokesman said on Friday.

“The president has exercised his authority to waive, for a period of six months, legislative restrictions on the maintenance of a PLO office and the expenditure of PLO funds,” said Frederick Jones, spokesman for the National Security Council.

“Representation of the PLO in Washington remains a useful channel of communication to President Abbas,” Mr Jones said.—AFP
