ISLAMABAD, April 15: The local police are hunting for a truck driver who drove away with his impounded vehicle from the premises of the police station, sources told Dawn.

The Shahzad Town police arrested driver Mohammad Aqeel and impounded his truck (AJKC-1875) when he failed to produced documents of the vehicle. However, he managed to escape from the police station along with his vehicle after starting it with a duplicate key. The policemen rushed to the parking area of the police station when they heard the ignition sound. But the driver managed to escape.

Police mobile teams were immediately informed about the incident, but the driver managed to dodge seven to nine police vehicles and reached the railway Carriage Factory where his vehicle overturned due to speeding. On seeing police personnel the injured driver ran away from the scene. Despite a six-hour long search, the police were unable to trace him.

When contacted, the Sabzi Mandi police officials said the truck had been impounded again and an FIR lodged against the driver.

They said Aqeel was arrested on the complaint of the traffic police and his vehicle was impounded because he had violated traffic rules.
