University student commits suicide: Biradri factor alleged
By Our Staff Correspondent
FAISALABAD, April 10: A student of the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, ended his life allegedly due to the behaviour of the varsity management here on Sunday night.
Umer Ramiz of the Gujjar clan and a resident of Sahiwal committed suicide by shooting in his temple.
Sources told Dawn on Monday an inquiry was pending against Ramiz, a student of masters in computer sciences, allegedly for his ‘indecent’ remarks against a fellow girl.
They alleged the inquiry was being conducted on a biradri basis and Jat students as well as professors were trying hard to prove him guilty.
The sources said the boy had requested the university management not to appoint a Jat professor as inquiry officer because the Jat biradri was forcing him to leave the campus.
In his suicidal note, the boy has held some of his fellows and professors responsible for his death.
A group of students told this correspondent that the decades-old menace of biradrism was very much there on the campus.
Even students made friendships on the basis of biradrism and teachers treated their students in the same manner.
The body of the boy was handed over to the family after autopsy on Monday.
No responsible university official was available for comments.
In another incident, jobless Shahbaz of Sargodha Road committed suicide by hanging himself with a ceiling fan.
