KARACHI, April 9: The National women basketball championship will be staged at the city’s women sports complex from May 2 to 9, secretary, Pakistan Amateur Basketball Federation (PABBF) ad hoc committee, Col (retd) Nasim Butt, said on Sunday. He said invitation had been extended to Army, PAF, Navy, Wapda, Police, Railways, four provinces and Islamabad.

The secretary disclosed that draws would be taken out after receiving the entries and the competition will be staged on league-cum-knockout basis.

Referring to the activities of national team, he said Pakistan figured in Islamic Games at Saudi Arabia while a combined services team featured in CISM basketball at Russia where they won a ‘Fair Play’ trophy.

He said efforts are being made to invite a team from neighboring country for playing a series against the national outfit in all the provincial headquarters.

“We will be extending invitation to Iran, Kuwait, UAE etc soon and play host to whosoever show their willingness,” he said.

To a question, Butt who is at the helm of affairs since May 2000, said it would be in the fitness of things that POA should implement the Supreme Court orders given in 2002 in latter and spirit.
