KARACHI, April 9: Un-fancied four-year-old chestnut colt, King Of Kings, lowered the colours of mare, Fly To The Sky, when he sprinted to victory in the Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday. He was home by two lengths with Fahim K in the saddle. Filly, Makina and bay horse, King Of Sanghar, settled for the following two places while Fly To The Sky completed the frame.
King Of Kings had to be content with third slot in the last meeting with Kashif Qamar aboard but change of rider by owner Faisal Farooq proved affective.
Eight-year-old Tom Cruise pulled off a mild upset when he galloped to victory in the opener with jockey Abdul Rahim in the saddle. He was chased by mare, Silent Love and bay horse, Tun Baba Tun.
Rahim presented another winner to Syed Ali Javed when he piloted home chestnut Silent Witness in the third to complete his double.
Gul Mohammad Rajar’s five-year-old bay horse, Gullu’s Government, created quite a stir when he picked up the spoils in the second by edging out Miss Milee and Dil Phaink who were installed as joint favourites. The two were heavily backed in the initial stages but suddenly the scenario changed and Gullu’s Government with no form worth came into heavy backing.
Gullu’s Government who failed to finish on the board in the last two attempts, won by seven lengths in a below average timings without getting any opposition from the rest of the field which left a bad taste in the mouth of race goers.
He was chased by mare, Sonia and chestnut, Thanks Naeem, for the places.
Three-year-old chestnut sibling, Reyan King, made amends of his poor run on the previous three occasions when he grabbed honours in the fifth race.
Jockey M. Nasir completed his double when he won honours by riding filly, Stormy Kiss, to victory in the sixth race.
Earlier, he rode Gullu’s Government home.
Jockey Essa also excelled in the saddle by returning with a brace of winners. After riding Reyan King to victory, he piloted Kicking King home in the concluding event outpacing mare, Haseena-e-Arab, by 10 lengths.
The mare has lately developed a habit of a late starter. Again she did the same but was lucky to occupy second slot after overtaking a number of contestants.
