LANDI KOTAL, April 9: A man was killed and two others were injured after six cargo trucks, including three on the Afghan side near Torkham, were washed away in flash floods after a rainstorm hit the tribal areas on Sunday. A container truck was washed away near Sheikhwal in the Zakhakhel area on the Peshawar-Torkham road in the Khyber Agency. The driver, Mohammad Omar, was killed and two others, Fakhre Alam and Azmat Khan, were seriously injured.

Two other trailers, parked in the Khwar area, were also washed away by flash floods. One of the trailer was carrying 1,800 tins of vegetable ghee while the other was carrying construction material to Afghanistan.

Sources said that three more trailers were washed away just across the border. However, no report of casualties was received.

The rainstorm also damaged the telephone and electricity system in the tribal agency. A number of electricity poles were uprooted by the strong wind in different areas.

Our Peshawar Bureau Adds: The entire region of Frontier and Fata received heavy rain on Saturday night and Sunday.

The heavy downpour lashed Peshawar city on Saturday night, which continued intermittently on Sunday.

Sources from the Kurram Agency said that a severe hailstorm lashed the Parachinar city ahead of the heavy rains, damaging standing crops. The hailstorm lowered the temperature considerably in the Kurram agency and adjoining areas.

The Waziristan Agency was also hit by heavy rains.
