42 militants surrender, says DCO

ISLAMABAD, April 8: Two leaders of militant groups working for Nawab Akbar Bugti surrendered with their 40 followers and weapons before security forces in the Sui area of Dera Bugti district on Saturday, according to an official. Talking to PTV, DCO Dera Bugti Abdul Samad Lasi identified the militant leaders as Zafar alias Zafru and Shah Mor. He said the surrendered weapons included Kalashnikovs, rifles, rocket launchers, rockets, detonators and explosive material.

The DCO said over the past few days, different militant commanders were showing willingness to surrender as they wanted to become peaceful citizens.

“They say they carried the sabotage activities under duress as Nawab Bugti compelled them to carry out his commands by browbeating them,” the DCO added.

Mr Lasi said the two groups, comprising men loyal to tribal elders and others who were paid by Mr Bugti, had unconditionally surrendered. He said that 20 other fugitives were willing to surrender.—APP
