JHANG, April 7: Six people were killed and 30 others sustained injuries, 12 of them serious, in an accident near Mahmood Kot, some 50kms from here on Jhang-Muzaffargarh Road on Friday.
An irrigation department team of Bhalwal sub-division was carrying a generator to Taunsa by an official truck.
Near Abbaspura bus stop, the driver while negotiating a sharp turn saw a speeding bus coming from the opposite direction.
To avoid a collision, drivers of both the vehicles applied emergency brakes as a result of which the truck overturned while the bus smashed into a roadside tree. Six irrigation employees died instantly while 30 people suffered injuries.
The 12 injured were shifted to a Multan hospital in serious condition, eight were admitted to Garh Maharaja RHC while the rest were discharged after first-aid treatment.
Those killed were identified as Moeenuddin, Mushtaq Ahmed, Ghulam Farid, Abdul Sattar, Liaquat Ali and Ghulam Abbas Shah.
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi has announced Rs300,000 each for the heirs of deceased officials.
