‘Water shortage hits yield’

Published April 8, 2006

LAKKI MARWAT, April 7: Lack of investment and shortage of irrigation water are affecting the farm yields in the district, says chairman of the Zarai Taraqiyati Bank Limited Abdul Rashid Chughtai.

He was speaking here after inspecting the proposed site of the bank’s regional branch in the district headquarters complex near Tajazai.

He was accompanied by district nazim Humayun Saifullah Khan.

Later, the nazim briefed Abdul Rashid Chughtai about the district government’s performance and the ongoing work in the complex.

“Farm yield in the district is decreasing day by day because of lack of investment in the agricultural sector and shortage of irrigation resources,” Mr Saifullah revealed.

He urged the government to provide funds to the district government for building dykes in rain water channels.

Chairman of Zarai Taraqiyati Bank Abdul Rashid Chughtai promised that the con-struction of the regional office would start within two months.
