KARACHI, April 7: The Aurat Foundation and Women’s Action Forum have strongly condemned the proposed amended bill of extension in working hours for women. In a joint statement issued on Friday, they said neither labour laws were made functional for working women nor any measure had so far been taken to make their working condition better.
Factory women workers faced harassment at workplace, unavailability of toilets, nursery for their children whereas home-based women workers suffered low wages and pathetic working conditions, they said.
Although Pakistan is a signatory of Convention on the Elimination of Discriminatory laws against Women (CEDAW), it has not been implemented in letter and spirit, they added.
They demanded of the government to repeal this amendment and ratify ILO-177 of UN convention on home-based workers. —PPI
