TRINCOMALEE, April 7: A pro-LTTE Tamil nationalist leader and two Muslim police guards were shot dead by unidentified gunmen on Friday, sparking tension in the eastern Trincomalee district.
Vanniasingham Vigneswaran, leader of the Tamil People’s Forum, was gunned down at the entrance of a bank in Trincomalee, police sources said. In another incident, two Muslim police guards were shot dead south of Trincomalee by two unidentified armed men riding a motorcycle. A military spokesperson blamed the LTTE for the killing of the two Muslim men.
