KARACHI, April 6: The victorious Pakistan cricket squad flew into the city on Thursday from Colombo after winning both the Test and one-day series against Sri Lanka.

Inzamamul Haq’s squad was accorded a warm welcome on arrival at the Quaid-i-Azam International Airport.

Inzamam, vice-captain Younis Khan, team members and manager Zaheer Abbas were profusely garlanded when they came out of the airport.

Pakistan won the ODI series 2-0 after the opening match was abandoned before clinching the two-match Test rubber by winning in Kandy by eight wickets inside three days.

Emerging fast bowler Mohammad Asif was Pakistan’s hero in the Tests with 17 wickets, including 11 in the Kandy Test.

Except for Shahid Afridi, Danish Kaneria, Faisal Iqbal, Younis, Arshad Khan and Umar Gul, the rest of the players were due to leave for their respective upcountry destinations by connecting flights.

Both Arshad and Umar Gul are scheduled to leave for Peshawar on Friday. —APP
