By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, April 6: Former Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission Chairman Pervez Butt has been appointed as federal secretary, Ministry of Science and Technology. Mr Butt is a recipient of Hilal-i-Imtiaz and Sitara-i-Imtiaz awards for his outstanding contributions in the field of nuclear engineering

He remained associated with PAEC for 43 years. He did his masters in nuclear mechanical engineering from University of Toronto in 1965. Mr Butt is also known at the international engineering and scientific forums where he represented Pakistan and presented several papers on self reliance in nuclear power.

His initiatives in the past had led to numerous technical collaborative programmes between Pakistan and foreign countries.

His appointment comes at a time when Pakistan is seeking collaboration in civilian nuclear programme to overcome the energy crunch that is confronting the country.

Meanwhile, Mushtaq Ahmed, a BS-21 officer of Police Service of Pakistan, has assumed the charge of the office of managing director Overseas Pakistanis Foundation (OPF).

Prior to joining OPF, he served with the Sindh government as chairman of chief minister’s inspection, inquiries and implementation team.
