KARACHI, April 6: The three men arrested at midnight after a day-long siege of the Defence residence of BNP chief Sardar Akhtar Mengal would be produced before an anti-terrorism court on Friday morning.

The siege was laid after Mengal’s men had allegedly roughed up two personal of the Military Intelligence who, according to Sardar Mengal, were attempting to kidnap his children while the latter were on their way to school on Wednesday morning.

However, according to official version, the intelligence officials were simply doing their duty when Mengal’s men “kidnapped them and beat them up inside Mengal’s house.”

DIG Investigation Manzoor Mughal told Dawn that the three suspects had been handed over to the police after midnight on Wednesday.

“We would produce Nasrullah, Ghulam Haider and Mehboob Ali before an ATC on Friday morning,” the DIG said.

In reply to a question regarding the whereabouts of the three persons, the DIG insisted that they were in the custody of Investigation police.

He said: “Two Kalashnikovs and a TT pistol were recovered from their possession.

These weapons were used in inflicting injuries to the MI officials and thus we are treating them as case property,” he added.

Though the Sardar himself was also nominated in the FIR, he was not arrested on Wednesday night despite his repeated offer to surrender.
