PCB still in dark over offshore ODI advertising

By Our Sports Correspondent

LAHORE, April 4: An amount of US$3.61 million has been generated from advertising revenue for displays inside the Abu Dhabi Cricket Stadium, the venue of the two One-day Internationals (ODIs) to be played between Pakistan and India on April 18 and 19.

The matches are being held to raise funds for the Oct 8 earthquake victims in both the countries.

An Indian company purchased the rights beating Abu Dhabi Cricket Club's bid worth US$3.512 million.

The tender for TV rights for the matches will be opened in Delhi on Thursday.

There are possible chances that the tender for TV rights could be sold out under a package deal, which includes off-shore ODIs series to be held between the countries for the next five years.

"I have no information that the tender for TV rights also includes the off-shore series, besides two ODIs," Saleem Altaf, who will attend the tender's opening ceremony, said.

He, however, said a bundle package, covering the two ODIs and the off-shore series could fetch a more handsome amount.

Meanwhile, 75 per cent income of the first ODI will be given to Pakistan while the remaining to India for relief work.

Income from the second ODI one will be deposited, equally, in the accounts of the two boards.

Meanwhile, Saleem will also be attending the meeting of four South Asian Test playing countries in Delhi on Thursday, being held to finalise the joint bid for the 2011 World Cup.

Earlier, the ICC had returned the South Asian countries' bid with some objections.
