Pervez inspires Army to third victory

KARACHI, April 4: Title holders Army posted a comfortable 63-30 victory over PAF to register third successive win in the six team pool ‘A’ of the Inter departmental basketball championship at the National Sports Training and Coaching Centre (NSTCC) on Tuesday.

The soldiers who took time to settle and trailed 5-9 at the end of first quarter led 23-17 at half time.

Pervez Hasan emerged top scorer for the soldiers with 17 points to his credit. Other scorers were Muddasir Khan (9) and Nawazish (8). Nadeem contributed 15 points for the airmen.

This was PAF’s second defeat in three games. Earlier they had lost to Habib Bank and defeated POF Wah.

Police strengthen their claim of making it to the next stage from pool ‘B’ when they whipped Higher Education Commission (HEC) 72-66 to maintain a clean slate.

Though policemen have earned full points from three outings, they were given a tough time by their opponent’s and restricted to win by slender lead.

Abbas Ali, Zaheer and Azmat made good use of their shooting skills and contributed 25, 20 and 16 points in the triumph. Yasir Waheed and Saqib Waheed netted 23 and 20 points for the losers.

Navy handed 61-45 defeat to KESC to register first victory in three games. Mustafa top scored for sailors with 21 points. Rashid and Javed scored 16 and 12 points for losers.

In the two matches played Monday night, PAF inflicted 59-38 defeat on POA Wah while Habib Bank routed Rangers 78-51.

Wednesday’s fixtures:

3.00pm: Army v Rangers; 4.00pm: Habib Bank v POF Wah; 5.00pm: Wapda v PAF; 6.00pm: Police v Railways; 7.00pm: HEC v KESC.
