Court moved to seal Sadiqgarh Palace


BAHAWALPUR, April 4: Ahmedpur East police have moved court to seal premises of the historic Sadiqgarh Palace. It was learnt that the decision was taken by police after receiving complaints that some trees, discarded material and other articles from the vast palace courtyard were being removed by certain elements.

Police also received information that some people entered the premises to steal some material, and for this purpose, they were using the palace forest as their hideouts.

Ahmedpur East DSP Irfanullah told Dawn by phone that the police had submitted before court that due to rivalry among groups breach of peace apprehended which could create law and order situation. So far no date to hear the police version has been fixed by the civil judge.

The DSP further said that the police guard had been deployed at the main palace gate to ban the entry of unconcerned persons.

To a question as to how Nawab Salahuddin Abbasi and his family, who are residing inside the Mubarak Manzil adjacent to the Sadiqgarh Palace, would enter their house, the DSP said the entry or exit could only be permitted through the main palace gate. — Correspondent
