10 killed in van-truck collision

THATTA, April 3: Ten people were killed and 15 others injured when a Karachi-bound van collided head-on with a truck near the Sakro roundabout on the Gharo Highway on Monday evening.

Eyewitnesses said the driver lost control of the truck after one of its front tyres burst. The van driver tried to avoid the truck but did not succeed.

Six of those killed were identified as Syeda Fatima, 7, truck driver Nizar Ali of Mansehra, Bashir Soomro of Badin, Qamrul Huda of the Orangi Town, Karachi, van driver Abdul Qadir Khalifo and Ali Mohammad of Sujawal.

The injured included Samiha Shah, Ali Hyder Shah and Ayub. Some of them were taken to Karachi because of their critical condition.

Police and the staff at the Gharo rural health centre confirmed that seven of the injured, whose names could not be ascertained, were in critical condition and they had been shifted to Karachi.
