Golf: Munir retains crown

ISLAMABAD, April 2: In an exciting finish, Mohammad Munir retained his professional crown in the President of Pakistan Gold Medal Golf Championship at the Islamabad Club on Sunday.

Following a five-way tie at the end of 54 holes that saw Munir, Matloob Ahmed, Mohammad Siddiq, Ansar Mehmood and Imdad Hussain all locked on 211 each, it all came down to a play-off.

And it was Munir who birdied the first hole to ensure that the title stayed with him as the three-day championship came to a thrilling close. Gulrez Shahid captured the gold medal in the amateur net category with a three-day score of 216 while Hamza Amin, a stroke behind at 217 finished second.

On the gross side, Taimur Hussain claimed the honours with a score of 219 and Waqas Ahmed came in second with 222.

The ladies net gold was bagged by Ami Qin who carded 131 while Fakiha who totalled 148 took second place.

Tahira Nazir landed the gross prize scoring 167 finishing well ahead of Mehwish Javed whose total was 174.
