Village set up for quake orphans

ISLAMABAD, April 1: The International Medical and Educational Trust has set up a village in Mansehra for children who lost their parents in the October earthquake. The launching ceremony of the ‘Village of hope’ was held here on Saturday.

The village consists of 100 pre-fabricated shelters imported from the United States and can accommodate 500 orphans.

Senator Nisar A. Memon, speaking as the chief guest, said the village would have a primary school, a health centre and a counselling centre for the children.

Additional Secretary M. Noor Saghir Khan, speaking on behalf of Social Welfare and Special Education Minister Zobaida Jalal, said the government was committed to rehabilitation and welfare of the people affected by the earthquake.

“We have settled a large number of orphans and widows in Hattian in Attock district,” he said.

He said a vocational training centre and a high school had been established in Hattian.—APP
