Three strokes lead for Ansar

ISLAMABAD, April 1: Ansar Mahmood of Islamabad Golf Club swept into a three-stroke lead in the professional category on the second day of the President of Pakistan Gold Medal Golf Championship.

The golfer from the host club carded six under 66 to finish with a two day aggregate of 136 as he had seven birdies for the day with 10 pars and a bogey.

Following him in second place was Abdul Hameed, also from Islamabad Club who followed up his opening day’s round of four under 68 with one under 71 Saturday, totalling 139 over two days.

But there was a four-way tie for third place with Imdad Hussain, Muhammad Nazir, Mohammad Munir and Mohammad Shabbir Iqbal locked with a total of 140 each.

From among them Nazir had the best round of three under 69 as he improved upon his Friday’s score of one under 71.

Munir, the defending champion and Shabbir finished with scores of par 72 each while Imdad ended up one under.

In the amateur net competition, Gulrez Shahid, Hamza Amin and Shahid Khan were tied for first place with two day scores of 148 each.
