PGF to launch talent hunt
KARACHI, April 1: Pakistan Golf Federation (PGF) will shortly launch a countrywide hunt to select pool of youngsters to train and groom for future, secretary Sindh Golf Association (PGF) Asad I.A. Khan said on Saturday.
“PGF will be holding trials at provincial and in federal capital to pick up young golfer for the future,” he said on his return from Islamabad after attending an Executive Committee meeting of PGF held on Friday.
He said PGF Chief Lt.Gen. Ashfaq Pervez Kiyani, who presided over the meeting stressed the need for launching a plan to train, coach and groom young and promising potential golfer of future.
SGA secretary said a programme will be finalized within next few weeks and 20 to 30 youngsters will be invited to appear in the trials in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar and Quetta.
He said youngsters like caddies working in different golf clubs of the country will be given preference because of their regular involvement and know how in golf.
He said after holding preliminary trials, final round of trials will be conducted in Islamabad in which 20-25 teenage golfers will be picked up for extensive training.
Asad said talented and needy teenager golfers will be also be provided stipend of Rs.3000 to 5000.
He revealed that PGF had acquired a 150-acre piece of land on which a public golf club be constructed to attract the general towards this sport.
He said this will be a big breakthrough in golf because general public has little access in this unique sport.—APP
