``KARACHI: Coalition govt working like a team, says Ibad

KARACHI, April 1: Sindh Governor Ishratul Ibad has said that coalition government in Sindh is working like a team and there is no truth about differences in the government. “The objective of all the people in the government is to ensure development and welfare without any discrimination,” he said while talking to the participants of Air War Course, led by Vice-Marshal M. Ateeq, who called on him at the Governor’s House.

Ishratul Ibad said that not only the people of Karachi, responsible people of all the provinces of the country were keen to make it a modern and model city. “The development of Karachi and peace here, guarantees the progress and peace of the entire country”.

Replying to various queries, the governor apprised the course participants about details regarding improved law and order, water and electricity, traffic and sanitation.

The delegation leader appreciated the efforts of the governor for the ongoing development process. Observing that there is progress in every field, he described it a big task and said it would produce good results in the future.

The governor informed the delegation that besides making 100mgd K-III water supply project for Karachi operational, work was also going on schemes to check water wastage, desalination and sewerage treatment.

Regarding sanitation, he said that the conditions would considerably improve with the outsourcing of garbage lifting work.

The governor informed the visitors that HUBCO-KESC link would start soon which would make improved power supply possible. Initially, out of this 1000MW link, Karachi will be supplied 300MW. At present, he said, the city power requirement was 2,150MW while 1,700MW was being generated. He said that some coastal areas of Sindh were best source for wind energy and work in this regard, too, had been started and 3,000 acres of land out of 12,000 acres available were allocated for this purpose.

Ishratul Ibad said that coordinated work was also being done to overcome traffic problems. Besides, overhead flyovers and underpasses, six corridors of mass transit had also been proposed, he added.

In this regard, work would be carried out on war-footings because at present some 300 new vehicles were registered in the city daily and these come on the roads.

He told the course participants that a special plan had been chalked out for carrying health facilities to far flung areas of the province.

He pointed out that poverty was there in urban areas, but rural areas were much more affected and many steps had been taken for improvement in agriculture sector, which was the backbone of rural economy, to alleviate poverty. These include programmes to streamline irrigation and agriculture sectors on modern lines whereby water courses were being lined. In the interior of Sindh, he said, industrial activities were also being promoted.

The governor said that the local government system, too, was proving helpful in carrying facilities to grassroots level. It was a silent revolution which would produce lasting impacts to reach the people, he said.—APP
