PESHAWAR: Wapda asked to restore power to 25 villages
PESHAWAR, April 1: NWFP Minister for Information Asif Iqbal Daudzai on Saturday asked the Wapda authorities to restore power supply to 25 de facto villages of Charsadda and Peshawar districts, as promised by the Pesco chief, to remove uncertainty among the consumers and pave way for resolution of the long-standing issue.
He issued the directive at a meeting of a committee formed by the NWFP chief minister to solve power supply and other problems of the villages.
He said: “We want resolution of the power supply issue through mutual negotiations in a way that neither Wapda incurs further losses nor the consumers face agonizing power supply suspension in future”.
“The ongoing deliberations of the committee will bear fruit only when both the parties show the spirit of accommodation and flexibility in their stances, said the minister.
He said that the provincial government was sincere in solving basic problems of the villages and launching developmental activities there under a special package to remove sense of deprivation among their dwellers and enable them to lead a prosperous life.
He asked the representatives of the villages to convince the villagers to let electricity meters be installed at their houses and forward the names of influential people to the secretary of the committee so that further negotiations could be held with them.
He said that those officers of Wapda should attend committee meetings in future who had authority (to take decision on the issue) so that the committee’s decisions could be implemented.
The meeting thoroughly discussed problems being faced by the villages, including suspension of power supply, and recommended proposals for their solution.
MNA Maulana Gohar Shah, Peshawar District Nazim Ghulam Ali, Charsadda District Nazim Mohammad Naseer Khan and others attended the meeting. —-PPI
