KARACHI: Joint protest against composite exam

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, April 1: Leaders of the Islami Jamiat Talaba, Karachi said on Saturday that composite examination system at the SSC and HSC levels was largely not acceptable to the students in the province and, if needed, it would take to the streets in order to press the federal government for withdrawal of the relevant order.

Speaking at a press conference at the Karachi Press Club, the IJT office-bearers said that in a situation when the arbitrary decision of abolishing class IX exams for holding composite examinations after two years’ study was being considered against all norms of justice and contrary to the aspirations of the people of Sindh, the latest statement by Federal Education Minister Javed Ahsraf favouring the composite system was tantamount to bulldozing rights of provinces.

Syed Abdur Rashid, nazim of Jamiat Karachi said that the decision to replace a well-accepted and practicable system of by-part examinations was an organized conspiracy against the education and its system of evaluation. The composite examination system was a thoughtless and irrational move by a limited group of ministers and their supporting staff, which would be resisted by all means, he warned, saying that quarters concerned should refrain from taking steps that caused unrest among students, parents, academics and school managements.

The IJT was already in the process of consulting students, parents, teachers and managements of school and very soon combined protest activities would be launched, said the IJT chief, who was flanked by Tauseef Ahmad and Ahmar Khan during the press conference.
