RAWALPINDI, March 31: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz called on President General Pervez Musharraf here on Friday and discussed the domestic political situation, law and order and economic developments in the country, particularly in Balochistan.

The president and the prime minister expressed the hope that the target of seven per cent economic growth rate would be achieved during the current fiscal year.

Mr Aziz exchanged views with the president on issues likely to come up during his forthcoming visit to the United Nations, United States and Spain.

President Musharraf said that no country should be allowed to establish monopoly on the UN Security Council in the name of the body’s expansion.

Expressing satisfaction over the country’s economic growth, they said that further steps would be taken to alleviate poverty.

They reaffirmed that the ongoing crackdown on terrorists in Waziristan and Balochistan would continue.

The president emphasised that fruits of economic growth should trickle down to grassroots level. The federal, provincial and district governments should work in coordination and take steps to contain inflation, he said.—Agencies
