KARACHI: Couple shot dead by robbers

KARACHI, March 31: A couple was shot dead while resisting bandits early Friday morning in Orangi Town. Police said around five armed bandits entered a house in Farid Colony in the limits of Mominabad police station and started collecting valuables.

Haider Khan showed resistance and the bandits opened fire at him. Police said the victim’s wife, Ruqia Bibi, attempted to grapple with the one of the bandits. She was also fired upon by the bandits.

Hearing the gun shots, people from the neighbourhood came to the house forcing the bandits to flee. The wounded victims were rushed to the nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Area people claimed that despite several calls to the police helpline, a police mobile reached after considerable delay.

RELEASED: One of the victims of kidnapping-for-ransom taken hostage two months back from Gadap area was released early Friday morning on the Hub River Road.

Police said Maulah Bukhsh, kidnapped by unknown persons along with Subhan on February 2, was set free on the Hub River Road early Friday.

Subhan was killed by his captors, who then dumped his body near the Hub River Road on March 29.

Police said that following the killing of Subhan, the family of Maula Bukhsh negotiated with the kidnappers and his release was secured after paying some part of the ransom amount.

The captors had demanded Rs20 million as ransom amount.
