OKARA, March 30: Around 16 dacoits made off with valuables, killed a man and injured four others during a shootout with villagers here on Wednesday night at 31/2-L village.

Reports said the gangsters entered the house of Pervez and started collecting cash, valuables and gold ornaments. On raising an alarm by women of the family, villagers rushed to the spot. As a result of which the dacoits shot injured a family member, Khan Muhammad, and his son Nadeem, a police constable. During a shootout, villagers Muhammad Yasin, Arshad, Shafi, constable Nadeem sustained critical injuries and were rushed to hospital. Yasin succumbed to his injuries at hospital. —Correspondent
