PM Golf: Shabbir, Inayat share honours


RAWALPINDI, March 26: Shabbir Iqbal captured the top professionals’ prize with a comfortable four-stroke lead and Inayatullah Yousufzai grabbed the title trophy in the Prime Minister Gold Medal Open Golf Championship on Sunday.

Islamabad’s Shabbir, who claimed top professionals prize of Rs60,000, returned a three-round card of three-under 213 which was four strokes better than one-over 217 of Lahore’s Matloob Ahmed, who was the defending champion but finished runner-up this time.

Shabbir carded one-under 71 in Friday’s first round of professionals 54-holes category and was even better in the second round on Saturday with a two-under 70.

Shahid Javed Khan and Sajjad Khan both jointly finished third with 218 each while Mohammad Munir and Ansar Mehmood were joint fourth with 219 each.

Inayatullah Yousufzai came from behind to topple the first two rounds leader Umar Farooq Khan and won the title trophy which was awarded on the basis of net scores in the main amateur (54-holes) event.

The eight-handicapper, Inayatullah, hailing from Swat, played 77 in the third and last round to aggregate a three-round tally of 215 to win the title while 11-handicapper Yasir Khokhar finished runners-up with 216.

Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz gave away prizes and medals st the conclusion.

Ladies Gross: Tahira Nazir (160), Jane Scott (180), Mehreen Raheel (187).

Seniors Net: Brig (rtd) Munir Chowhan (137), Lt Col (r) Tariq Kaleem (138) and Col (r) Rashid Mehmood (139).

Seniors Gross: Lt. Col. (r) Fasih Ali Anwar (160), Brig (r) Abdul Ghafoor Raja (163) and Ali Akbar Naqvi (168).

Senior Professionals: Manzoor Ahmed (154), Akbar Ali, Mohammad Rafiq, Ghani Rehman and Shoukat Ali (all tied on 2nd spot) and Mohammad Shafiq.

Invitees Net: Lt Gen Ashfaq Pervez Kayani (36), Brig Zaheerul Islam (39) and Maj Gen Mohammad Asaad (40).

Invitees Gross: Maj Gen Masood Hassan (44), Lt Gen Khalid Munir Khan (47) and Maj Gen Jamshed Riaz (48).

Subsidiary Net: Lt Col Zafar Waraich (135), Cdr Azhar Ahmed (141) and Umair Javed (141).
