PESHAWAR, March 25: Promising Mohammad Ali (Gomal University) and Bakhbeland of University of Peshawar (UoP) claimed two gold medals on the opening day of the Second NWFP Universities Sports Gala_2006, at University of Peshawar (UoP) on Saturday.

Ali, who also represented Pakistan in the World University Games held in Turkey last year, clinched golds in the 100m and 400m.

Ali clocked 11.00sec in 100m and in process smashed his own mark of 11.07sec in Inter-university Athletic Championship held last week.

Ali also improved his previous best time of 52.13sec in the 400m by clocking 52.07.

Bakhbeland’s golds came in the 800m and 1500m.

Khalil Rehman and Mehran University snatched shot put gold while Mohammad Rafique (UET) annexed the high jump. UoP won the 4x100 metres relay.—APP
