KARACHI, March 23: NWFP Cup champion, Rambel Gul, on Thursday strengthened his claim of making it to the knock out pre-quarterfinal from group ‘H’ when he subdued ninth seed Imtiaz Tipu of Punjab 4-1 to chalk up his third straight win in the 31st National snooker championship.
Qualifier Rambel after dropping the opener 20-57, never allowed Tipu to settle by picking up next four frames 64-35, 59-39, 74-29, 58-1 to earn full points.
Considered as a dark horse, Rambel toppled eighth seed Shehram Changezi 4-2 and Sindh Cup winner Irfan Rasheed Khan 4-3 in the previous two outings. He meets Punjab Cup winner Imran Khan in his fourth match on Friday at 2.00pm.
Sindh Cup quarterfinalist, Jawed Ansari, registered a fine break of 96 in the second frame against NWFP’s qualifier Shah Khan in his 4-1 triumph, second in three games so far.
He was home 54-31, 103-13, 60-10, 42-55, 62-6.
Jawed had already beaten 14th seed, Inamur Rehman, 4-2 on the opening day before going down to third seed Naveen Perwani 1-4 the other day in group ‘C’.
Khurram Agha’s break of 99 against Farhan Noor is tournament’s highest so far.
