RAWALPINDI, Mar 22: President Gen Pervez Musharraf on Wednesday issued directives for the formulation of a comprehensive policy to provide cost effective gas to maximum number of people and encourage private sector investment in gas supply, especially in remote areas.

He was presiding over a meeting convened to discuss a policy on optimal use of gas as fuel for domestic and industrial consumption. The meeting was attended by Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and senior government functionaries.

“We must devise a comprehensive policy to encourage both the domestic private sector and foreign entrepreneurs to come forward with investment, especially in transporting natural gas to the benefit of people in far-off areas,” the president said.

In this respect, he referred to the recently inaugurated model CNG station in Lilla, Jhelum, and said the success of such ventures bade well for greater investment in the sector.—APP
