KARACHI, March 22: An All-Parties Conference (APC) on Wednesday, expressing concern over deteriorating law and order situation in Karachi, unanimously held the government responsible and said that the provincial administration had lost its legality as it had failed to protect life and property of the people and for maintaining law and order.
The APC held under the aegis of Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) at its Karachi office Idara Noor-i-Haq, warned the military government and authorities concerned to refrain from persisting policy of Karachi’s destruction by handing it over to terrorists and extortionists and announced to observe Friday (March 24) as protest day.
A unanimously passed resolution also expressed deep sorrow and grief over death of an innocent brother and sister at the hands of police two days back in North Karachi, and held the police, the home department and the home minister responsible for their killing and demanded registration of FIR against them.
It alleged that the government supported terrorists, criminals, dacoits and extortionists, saying earlier only terrorists were killing political opponents and dissidents and police used to supervise, but now police were directly involved in this process.
The JI APC also condemned government’s failure to arrest the killers of eminent Ulema, political leaders, workers and renowned personalities in addition to demolition of ancient villages and Kutcha Abadies to grab precious land in the city.
Speaking on the occasion, JI Naib Amir Prof Ghafoor Ahmed said as police were now themselveskilling innocent people in addition to protecting and patronizing criminals and terrorists, weapons should be taken back from it.
He said there was no legal or moral ground left for Sindh government as common people as well as political leaders, dissidents of a group, Ulema, lawyers and other eminent personalities were being assassinated in broad day-light without any fear.
Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Prof N D Khan said both the police and the judiciary need revolutionary reforms to perform an effective role in maintaining law and order and provision of justice to people.
Allama Hasan Turabi of Islami Tehreek Pakistan said that a government of infidelity could exist, but a government of cruelty would collapse sooner or later. Allama Turabi demanded registration of first degree murder case against accused police officials.
Syed Zia Abbas of National Peoples Party (NPP) said foreign investment was only possible when there would be peace but unfortunately in Karachi, nobody considers himself save in this city after coming out of his residence.
Several other leaders including Zain Ansari of ARD, Nusrat Mirza of Muslim Rabita Council, Amin Khattak of ANP, Khawaja Tariq Nazir of PML-N, Basharat Mirza of PDP, Mohammad Usman Baloch of NWP, Malik Sarwar Awan of PPI also spoke while MNAs, MPAs and Senators of MMA were also present.—PPI
