Khokhar’s sentence

Published March 18, 2006

LAHORE, March 17: A division bench of the Lahore High Court on Friday suspended the sentence of Haji Nawaz Khokhar, a PPP leader and a former deputy speaker of the National Assembly.

The bench accepted the plea of Mr Khokhar that he had already undergone all the substantial sentence of imprisonment awarded in a reference against him by an accountability court of Islamabad.

Beside, National Accountability Bureau prosecutor Abdul Baseer Qureshi submitted in a written statement that it (NAB) had no objection if the sentence of fine and disqualification for 10 years was suspended particularly when the PPP leader had almost served the substantial part of sentence in jail. — Correspondent
