Tanveer, Amir grab honours


PESHAWAR, March 16: Lahore Board clinched the Pakistan Inter-board athletics championship at the Qayyum Sports Complex on Thursday. Tanveer Abbas of the Multan Board was declared the best athlete. He won gold in 800m, 1,500m and 5,000m.

Ali Amir of Karachi Board emereged as the fastest athlete completing a fine sprint double by winning 100 and 200m besides setting new records in both the events. He also bettered his previous record in 100m with a time of 10.66 seconds. His previous record was 10.85 seconds.

In hammer throw, Zahid Mehmood of Faisalabad created a new record by breaking 27-year old mark of Ghulam Noorani Khan.

Lahore Board jumped to the top position by scoring 103 points by winning gold in 100m, 400m, 110m hurdles, 400m hurdles, 4X100 relay and silver medals in 100m, 200m 110m, 400 hurdles, 4X100m relay. Lahore also won bronze medal in long jump, triple jump, high jump and hammer throw.

Faisalabad won gold medals in long jump, triple jump, shot put; discuss, javelin and hammer throws, silver medals in long jump and triple jump, and bronze medals in 800, 5,000, 110 hurdles and 4X100 meter relay.

Gujranwala collected 76 points and Dera Ghazi Khan got 54 points.

Only two events, 100m and 400m, were held on Thursday.

400m:
