ISLAMABAD, March 14: Pakistan said it had strengthened security at its embassy in Kabul on Tuesday amid increasingly strained relations between the two countries. The Foreign Office said the embassy was warned of possible protests against Pakistan, following “baseless” allegations made at the weekend by a former Afghan president that Islamabad was behind an attempt on his life.
“We were informed that some demonstrations were planned against Pakistan outside our mission in reaction to the baseless allegations levelled against Pakistan by Mr Mujadidi,” she said.
Mr Mujadidi accused Pakistan’s President Pervez Musharraf and the neighbouring country’s secret service of plotting the attack. His allegation was the latest salvo in a war of words between Pakistan and Afghanistan over who is responsible for cracking down on Islamic militants operating on the border between the two nations.—AFP
