KARACHI: Special children entertained

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, March 14: Over a 150 handicapped children were entertained for over three hours at a fun-filled programme organized at a local hotel on Tuesday. Special children wearing fancy dresses danced on national as well as folk songs presented by their colleagues. The children also presented tableaux based on various songs at the function organized by noted artist and social worker Jimmy Engineer.

Jimmy, who has been organizing such functions for handicapped children for over four years now, said he took special people to five star hotels and elite city restaurants so they could enjoy and have fun like normal children.

He urged the parents of special children not to feel shy nor hide their children from public and rather take them out to public places like parks, etc so they could interact with normal children.

With the passage of time and increased interaction, they (special children) will be able to mingle with normal people without feeling awkward, he said.

He said that governments in developed countries provided various facilities to handicapped people, but they were not even provided their due rights here.

He urged the philanthropists to join hands and provide whatever they could to the organizations that were assisting handicapped people, so that the quality of life of the special people could be made more comfortable.

Jimmy said he organized such programmes so that issues being faced by the handicapped people could be highlighted. Once highlighted, there was chance that these would get solved, he added.

He lauded the cooperation extended by Byram D Avari, who had offered his hotels for such programmes for special people.

Children belonging to the Ida Rieu School and College for the Deaf and Blind, Darul Sukoon, Darul Khushnood, Ma-Ayesha, Al-Umeed, Madular, Bait-ul-Shafqat, Scinosa, Madawa, Agosh, Asra and Hope and Faith participated in the function.
