CHITRAL, March 10: Heads of government departments briefed the district council about functions and problems of their departments here on Friday. The session was chaired by convener Sultan Shah.
The executive district officer (EDO) of the finance department warned that the district government might collapse in a few years because of curtailment of funds allocated to the district.
He pointed out that before the devolution of power, the annual allocation to the district exceeded Rs50 million which had now plunged to only Rs15 million this year.
The EDO health said that out of 82 posts of doctors in the district, 42 were lying vacant as doctors were unwilling to perform duties in far-flung areas like Chitral.
The council members expressed dissatisfaction over the situation and suggested measures to rectify it.
