Chawla second youngest Indian debutant

MOHALI, March 9: Piyush Chawla became second youngest cricketer to play for India when he stepped on to the field in second cricket Test against England on Thursday. The Uttar Pradesh leg-spinner, 17 years and 75 days old, ranks behind Sachin Tendulkar who made his debut at the age of 16 years and 205 days against Pakistan at Karachi in 1989-90. Chawla, however, heads list of slow bowlers to have played for India including another leg-spinner, Laxman Sivaramakrishnan, and slow left-armer Maninder Singh.—Agencies
