PESHAWAR, March 9: Minister of State and National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) chairman Dr Nasim Ashraf on Thursday announced that the NCHD would establish 1,200 transitional schools in the quake-affected areas of the country.

This he said while visiting a transitional school in the Ghazikot township with a seven-member delegation of British businessmen and industrialists headed by Mr James Caan.

The minister pledged to accelerate the pace of rehabilitation to ensure timely remedy to quake victims.

Earlier, at a briefing, Director Relief Kamran Sharif said that 459 transitional schools were already functioning in which 21,149 children were enrolled. A total of 978 tents have been installed for these schools where 518 teachers are employed.

The British delegation pledged to support the NCHD relief operation and promised to construct 100 more shelters.
