ISLAMABAD, March 3: People’s Party Parliamentarians MNA Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan says the visit of US President George W. Bush to Pakistan would only encourage undemocratic forces in Pakistan.
In an interview here on Friday, he said the visit of the US president would bring no betterment to Pakistan and its people other than encouraging undemocratic and unconstitutional forces.
“Since there has emerged a nexus between President Bush and General Pervez Musharraf, the rulers will feel emboldened by this visit. But there is no denying the fact that the US would keep seeking such favours from the rulers that will ultimately bring them at loggerheads with the people of Pakistan,” he added.
Barrister Ahsan said President Bush had no popularity in Pakistan mainly because of his anti-Muslim policies. He said the US tilt towards India was quite evident from President Bush’s address to the Asia Society in USA in which he said that the US wanted to see India as a strong regional power and a strategic ally.
PTI: Member National Assembly (MNA) and Chairman Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan has vowed to hold a long march on Saturday to protest against the visit of President Bush to Pakistan.
In a statement, he said the long march would be held from Rawalpindi to the Parliament House. He vowed to protest against the hypocritical policies of President Bush and his support to dictatorship.
MMA: Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) has given a call to observe a protest on Saturday against the visit of the US president.
MMA leader Liaquat Baloch told reporters that on the call of the MMA president, Qazi Hussain Ahmed, Saturday would be observed as a black day across the country. He said the MMA workers would observe a peaceful protest against the arrival of President Bush by hoisting black flags and wearing black arms bands.
Jamaat-i-Islami secretary-general and a central leader of MMA Syed Munawar Hassan has condemned the US policies to make India a regional power. He said it was an open secret that the United States had started relying on India in the region.
He said the US wanted to make India a mini-superpower in the region to contain China. They have signed a nuclear agreement and are holding joint military exercises, he said, adding India was the real US ally in South Asia.—PPI
Our Reporter adds: The Communist Party of Pakistan has asked people to observe a complete shutter down strike on the occasion of US President George W. Bush’s visit to Pakistan to show solidarity with the innocent people being killed by the US troops in Afghanistan and Iraq.
In a statement issued here on Friday, the CPP president Jameel Ahmed Malik asked the people to show their despise against the US policies in Palestine, Iraq and Afghanistan.
He also criticized the opposition parties for failing to taking out protests on the arrival of the US president.
The main opposition parties, he said, were still reluctant to take out rallies against the US, including the religio- political alliance, which claimed of organizing a ‘Million March’ because they themselves wanted favours from America in order to remain in power.
Mr Malik said the US could never be a friend of Pakistan nor any other third world country because it was responsible for economic exploitation of under-developed countries.
Those who thought the US would solve the Kashmir issue were living in a fool’s paradise, he said. The US was responsible for the exploitation of the labour class around the world and the growing number of the poor.
According to the Communist Party of Pakistan, he said, the US was itself involved in acts of terrorism around the globe evident from its policies in Afghanistan and Iraq, and Mr Bush had played the main role in this episode.
SALIK: A former federal minister Julius Salik has planned his own style of protest to attract the attention of President Bush to the growing hatred between the followers of different religions.
According to the plan, Mr Salik will tie himself to a nine feet ‘peace dove’. The minority leader will stay in this position for four hours from 10am to 2pm at his residence on Saturday. In this way, he will attract the attention of President Bush to what he said rapidly increasing violence and hatred among various religions.
He stressed on America to initiate remedial measures to overcome this evil. He will also present an important memorandum to the US president through print and electronic media.
