KARACHI, Feb 12: The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises has formed a committee, comprising scientists from the Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research and the Engineering Development Board and food technologists, to promote and develop modern molasses plants.

In a press statement issued here on Sunday, the union called upon Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority chief Shahab Khwaja to promote establishment of modern molasses factories with capacity in the four provinces to overcome the sugar crisis.

Union president Zulfikar Thaver said molasses being chemical-free was good for health as compared to heavily synthetic sugar.
