2 die in road accidents; body found

RAWALPINDI, Feb 8: Two persons were killed in separate road accidents while a man was found murdered in Golra area on Wednesday, police said. In the first incident, Mohammad Aftab, an employee of the interior ministry, was killed after being run over by Rawalpindi police van on Rawal Road.

Mr Aftab was going with his father when a speeding police van hit him, killing him on the spot.

In another incident, an unidentified person was killed after being hit by a vehicle near the railway crossing in I-9 area. The body has been shifted to Pims for autopsy.

Meanwhile, Golra police on Wednesday found a body of a man who had been missing from his house for the last three days.

Quoting the family of the deceased, the police said Nasir Shah, who was jobless, had been missing for the last three days. On Wednesday some passers-by spotted a body whose nose and ears were chopped off and had severe torture marks. Later the deceased was identified as Nasir Shah.

According to his family the deceased had no enmity, the police said.

MISSING GIRL FOUND DEAD: Rescue teams of the army and Civil Defence fished out the body of an 18-month-old girl who died after falling into an uncovered manhole on Jamia Masjid Road on Tuesday night, police and witnesses said.

Aiman Tariq, daughter of Mohammad Tariq, was going to a clinic along with her cousin Abdul Rehman, 12, when they fell into a drain. The boy was, however, rescued but the girl went missing.

The residents of the area gathered at the site and started looking for the girl who had come to Rawalpindi from Sargodha with her parents.

Aiman was found dead in the nullah after 12 hours about 200 metres from the place where she fell. The girl was buried in Eidgah graveyard in the afternoon. A large number of mourners attended her funeral prayers and strongly criticized the civic authorities for their negligence.

An inquiry has been ordered into the incident.
