MUZAFFARGARH, Feb 3: The district and sessions judge on Friday ordered police to proceed against a DSP and an SHO who detained a witness illegally. Allah Wasaya, a resident of Basti Arif, said in his habeas corpus petition that his brother Rasool Bakhsh, who was a witness in a murder case, was detained unlawfully by Sheher Sultan police.

A bailiff was deputed who recovered the detainee from a house behind the police station and produced him before the court. His counsel contended that police kept Rasool Bakhsh in illegal detention on the orders of DSP (investigations) Malik Yaqoob Awan.

He submitted that the detainee was also tortured and requested the court to issue an order for registration of a case against the DSP and the SHO of Sheher Sultan police station.—APP
