Pervaiz takes note of gang-rape

Published February 4, 2006

LAHORE, Feb 3: Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi on Friday took note of a Bahauddin Zakariya University (Multan) student’s gang-rape by five people, including her two class fellows, in Kabirwala.

He sought a report from the Khanewal DPO as well as an explanation why this serious incident was not brought to the notice of the Punjab government despite the lapse of four days.

The chief minister also asked the DPO to ensure the arrest of the accused within 24 hours. According to the chief minister’s monitoring cell (which brought the issue to the CM’s knowledge), the victim was taken by her class fellow, Muhammad Asif, to Mohalla Islamabad, Kabirwala, residence of Ghulam Shabbir for bringing about reconciliation with her fiance, Nadim. But when she reached Ghulam Shabbir’s house she was allegedly criminally assaulted by five people. Later, the student who fell unconscious was taken to a nearby hospital by neighbours.
